WHO WE ARE

The West Metro Schools Credit Union is a not-for-profit member-owned financial cooperative with locations in Hopkins and Edina, Minnesota.  We are open to employees of Edina and Hopkins school districts, their families and household members. We offer a variety of personal banking services. A few benefits of membership include lower fees, great rates both on loans and savings, and personalized service.

CREDIT UNIONS VERSUS BANKS

Credit unions are quite different from other financial institutions. While we provide most of the same services, one very significant difference stands out. Your Credit Union is working for ALL of its members, not just a handful of stockholders who stand to gain from the institution’s profits. Banks make money for stockholders, not for customers.

Credit unions are the only democratically controlled financial institution in the United States. You and other members elect a volunteer board of directors to oversee the credit union. The president reports to this board. Bank directors, however are paid and legally bound to make decisions to benefit stockholders, not customers.
